Jo Shaw is a Chartered Physiotherapist with more than 20 years of experience in specialist neurological physiotherapy. Caring, dedicated and deeply committed to her patients, Jo brings both clinical excellence and a genuinely personal touch to everything she does.

Her journey

A passion for neurological physiotherapy

Jo’s career has taken her from the wards of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to community settings across South Yorkshire, and even to New Zealand, where she spent six years broadening her clinical expertise and gaining valuable insight into different approaches to rehabilitation.

Throughout her career, Jo has been driven by a simple belief: that every person living with a neurological condition deserves expert, personalised care that is built around them, their goals and their life. That belief is at the heart of everything Jo does today.

Experience and expertise

Two decades of specialist clinical experience

Jo has spent the majority of her career delivering specialist neurological physiotherapy in community settings, including patients’ homes, outpatient clinics, hydrotherapy pools and gym environments. She has also led condition specific exercise classes and worked across acute and rehabilitation wards at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Jo has worked with adults living with a wide range of neurological conditions, including stroke, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy, ataxia and vestibular disorders.

She is highly skilled in the Bobath concept, using specialist assessment and handling techniques to facilitate movement and optimise functional outcomes. She also has experience in the use of robotics and functional electrical stimulation as part of comprehensive neurological rehabilitation.

Qualifications and affiliations

Fully qualified, registered and professionally recognised

Jo is a Chartered Physiotherapist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (CSP). She is also an active member of the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Neurology (ACPIN), where she sits on the committee of her regional branch, supporting the advancement of neurological physiotherapy practice through professional collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Committed to staying at the forefront of her field

Jo is dedicated to ongoing learning and professional development, regularly undertaking training and attending conferences to ensure her practice remains evidence based and up to date. Her CPD activities include Basic and Advanced Bobath courses, PD Warrior training, an Ataxia study day, Good Clinical Practice training and attendance at ACPIN and Allied Health Professions conferences.

Jo has also completed three Master’s level modules covering Therapeutic Exercise and Physical Activity, Advancing Practice in Neurological Therapy and Service Improvement Planning, reflecting her commitment to clinical excellence and service development.

I know that living with a neurological condition, or supporting someone who is, can feel overwhelming at times. My goal is always to make the process of getting help as simple, reassuring and personal as possible.

I take time to truly get to know each person I work with, to understand not just their condition but their life, their goals and what matters most to them.
